Moving Tips

Through the years, and thousands of moves, we have identified a few tips that will assist you in helping us make your move go smoother, faster, and be much less stressful.

The key is to be pro-active and organized.

The better prepared you are, the better your move experience will be.

Below is a short list of general tips that will help us to help you.

• If you live in an apartment complex, try to save the parking space closest to the walkway that leads to your home.  Then when the moving crew arrives remember to move your vehicle to create an easy path for the movers to load your things onto the truck.
• If you live in a house, remember to park your vehicles several houses down and not in your driveway or on the street directly in front of your home. This will allow the movers the room they need to safely park and position the moving truck.

• Be especially mindful of this at your new house and do not let your sprinkler system run before or during your move.

• Moving day is a stressful time, young children and pets can get overexcited and get underfoot while older kids, if they're not happy, can sometimes be more hindrance than help. It's always a good idea to involve your kids in the moving process but you also might want to consider letting them do something else for the day instead.

• Packing tape does more than just close the box; it also keeps the box rigid and provides stability so that boxes may be stacked safely.
• Remember also that label stickers, especially post-it notes, tend to fall off of boxes in transit, while marker labels never get lost.
• If you are having the movers sort boxes by the room at your new place, make sure to label your boxes with more than just the boxes contents; add the new room location.
• All boxes and containers should be properly sealed shut before the movers arrive,they cannot be moved if they are left open.

• Ideally nothing should be on top of any furniture that is to be moved by the time the movers arrive.
• Also be aware that while clothing and linens inside drawers do not need to be emptied, everything else should be removed ahead of time.

• Consider designating someone who knows where everything belongs as “Move Director.” The Move Director constantly stays close to the front door and directs the movers where they should place whatever heavy load they may be carrying.
• This is likely the single most helpful thing you can do to ensure that getting set up in your new home goes smoothly.
